David Smith founded Redmire Environmental Limited in 2013 as an independent environmental consultancy specialising in environmental impact assessment (EIA), but also able to provide planning support services for projects across a wide range of development sectors.
With over 17 years working as an EIA practitioner, David’s experience is founded on previous employment within town planning and engineering consultancies and encompasses a wide range of development types including major mixed-use regeneration on brownfield sites, aviation uses, marine and coastal zone development, motorsports, energy from waste, manufacturing, renewable energy (wind, solar and biomass), logistics and transportation. This experience has included projects in England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Guernsey.
In addition to the coordination and preparation of EIAs, David provides broad development planning and site assessment experience. He has a good working knowledge of the UK planning process and also has experience in sustainability appraisal, site feasibility assessments and due diligence assessments. This experience has included review of planning applications prior to and post-determination to assess potential risks to delivery, timescales for the implementation of development consents, and the interface required between planning and the construction process.
David has experience in providing advice to developers on site feasibility in the early stages of the development process, including potential constraints and opportunities, likely environmental assessment requirements, potential survey requirements and, where relevant, potential specialist consultant support.
